Toyota will be starting its WRC campaign with two cars, and Toyota is keen to keep the Finnish content in the team. This is because if Toyota soughts any experienced foreign drivers, they may demand a full WRC program.
The 24 year old Finnish driver Esapekka Lappi is a former European Rally Champion who drives for Skoda Motorsport for past the four years. Although the young Finn has never competed in a WRC car, he has got the potential to make it big in WRC.
On the other hand, Juho Hanninen is a experienced driver, who played a vital part in developing Toyota Yaris WRC. Formerly Hanninen piloted the Hyundai i20 WRC. According to reports, Tommi Makinen Racing is yet to start the asphalt testing of Yaris WRC.
But the car has been extensively tested on gravel and has completed almost 6000kms of mileage on gravel. It is speculated that the Toyota WRC team will be launched at the Paris Motor Show in October.
