Toyota Imports Vios For R&D Purpose; Launch Imminent?

Toyota Vios, the premium sedan from the Japanese major has been imported for research and development purpose in India. This brings speculation of an imminent launch in India anytime soon.

The Toyota Vios will compete with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Vento once launched, it competes globally with the same models as well. The Vios will be positioned between the Toyota Etios and Corolla Altis.

Having said that, the Vios, in terms of design it takes a lot of cues from the Corolla Altis and the finish of a premium Etios.

The Toyota Vios will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.4-litre diesel engine which will come mated to a 5-speed manual and a choice of 4-speed automatic gearbox.

In terms of dimension, the Toyota Vios will measure 4,410 mm in length, 1,700 mm in width, and 1,475 mm in height and the wheelbase at 2,550mm and weighs 1,075 kgs. This dimension is identical to the Etios, however, it will feature premium specs like standard dual airbags and ABS.

Toyota has been testing the vehicle in India and speculation are rife for the last two years about its launch. This import of the Vios makes it close the launch of the vehicle and expect a launch by the end of 2016 or early 2017.
