Toyota Hybrids Sales Cross 9 Million
Japaneseautomaker Toyota has now sold over nine million hybrid vehicles since it first launched the Coaster Hybrid EV in August 1997 and followed it up with Prius four months later.
Toyota crossed the 9 million mark on April 30, 2016 and the latest million sprint, from eight to nine million, took just nine months.
The company has released a statement about crossing the new milestone in which it claimed it's hybrids were bringing down CO2 emissions.
Toyota said, "Toyota calculates that as of April 30, the use of Toyota hybrid vehicles in lieu of conventional vehicles of similar size and driving performance has resulted in approximately 67 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions-believed to be a cause of global warming. Toyota also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 25 million kiloliters of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles in the same class."
Out of the nine million hybrids sold, over four million come from the Prius line of hybrids.
