Toyota Collaborates With Open Source Robotics Foundation
Toyota Research Institute (TRI) has announced that it will join hands with Open Source Robotics Foundation (OSRF) to develop both open source and proprietary tools for Toyota's developing robotics and vehicle research programmes.
This move will boost TRI's research and engineering reach. TRI is also rewarding OSRF A $1 million charitable contribution as a token of support for development of open source robotics software. OSRF is an independent non-profit organisation founded by members of global robotics community.
With the new two year deal between the two companies, TRI will take help from expertised OSRF engineering team for various research and development programmes. This will help Toyota in going beyond the boundaries of traditional corporate research and development facility.
TRI CEO Gill Pratt said, "At Toyota, we are creating better ways to move, whether it's across the room, across town, or across the country. The Open Source Robotics Corporation team brings unparalleled technical expertise and industry-leading technology platforms, which we intend to embed in the heart of our research programs."
