Top 10 Selling Passenger Vehicle Brands In India During July 2016

Passenger vehicles is a key segment for carmakers since sales numbers are the game. The entry level models are what churn numbers for carmakers. The top-of-the-line models, on the other hand, showcase their advancement in technology and what innovations they have achieved in terms of luxury.

India being a hot-spot for car manufacturers, is open to all kinds of vehicles, including hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs. Now, let's take a look at the top 10 selling passenger vehicle brands in India during July 2016.

At number 10 come the German carmaker, Volkswagen. The German brand's most affordable offering in India is the Ameo compact sedan which was launched recently and not the Polo hatchback. During July 2016, Volkswagen sold 4,301 units in India.

Japanese carmaker Nissan takes the ninth place, having sold 6,418 units in India during July 2016. Nissan's most affordable offering in India is the Micra Active, which is available in a petrol variant only.

Ford comes in at the eighth place, having sold 7,088 units for the month of July 2016. The American carmaker revamped the EcoSport, Endeavour, and the Figo hatchback for the Indian market, while also launching a compact sedan, the Aspire. The EcoSport remains the best-seller for Ford in the Indian market.

In the seventh position is Renault, having sold 11,968 units during the month of July 2016. The Duster was one of the best-selling Renault product in India, but after the Kwid was launched, it became an instant hit. The Kwid alone contributed to almost two thirds of Renault's sales for the month of July in India.

The Japanese carmaker may be the world's second best selling carmaker, but in India, Toyota has to settle for the sixth place. Toyota has taken a hit in sales due to the ban on diesel vehicles above 2,000cc, in Delhi and Kerala. In spite of the ban, Toyota managed to sell 12,404 units during July 2016.

Tata Motors comes in at the fifth place, having sold 13,586 units in July. Tata Motors has seen a decline in sales numbers and the recently launched Tiago hatchback seems to have been the company's saviour. The Tiago has received impressive response from customers and the petrol variant has been selling good.

Honda takes the fourth place, having sold 14.025 units in July. Honda's best seller is still the City, followed by the Jazz in India. The Mobilio is struggling with sales, while the BR-V looks promising, and managed to sell just over 3,000 units. The Amaze too, is not performing as much as the Japanese carmaker's expectation.

Mahindra was the third best selling passenger vehicle brand for the month of July 2016. Mahindra sold 16,337 units, excluding its Supra LCV in India. The Bolero has been a steady pillar for the company, while the KUV100 has been doing really good for Mahindra.

Hyundai takes the second spot in the list of top 10 selling passenger vehicles in July 2016. The South Korean carmaker sold 41,201 units last month, which is a huge difference from what Mahindra sold. The Grand i10 is the best seller for Hyundai, while the Creta is also attracting huge sales.

1. Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki seems invincible. If the sales difference between the second and third place in our list was huge, second and first is massive. Maruti Suzuki sold 1,25,778 units in a month, which is a lot more than what a few carmakers sell in a year. The Alto and the Dzire continue to be best sellers for Maruti Suzuki in India.
