Government Plans To Lure Tesla Motors In Setting Up Manufacturing Hub
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport, Highway and Shipping recently visited Tesla Motors facility in America. The meet was organised to convince Tesla Motors official that they should choose India as their manufacturing hub for Asian expansion.
Tesla Motors has also been offered lucrative land deals in India to set up their manufacturing unit. Various export options have also been proposed to showcase India's intent on bringing Tesla Motors to the country.
Emphasis was laid on the fact that the Indian Government plans on taking drastic measures in faster adoption of electric vehicles. Local production of electric vehicles and components is one way of taking care of this issue. This would help in lowering costs thus increasing sales for various electric automobile manufacturers.
The Model S has witnessed an overwhelming response globally. So far, Tesla Motors has acquired over 40,000 bookings. Tesla Motors confirms that several Model S bookings have been made by Indian buyers as well. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors via a Tweet made his intentions clear on offering electric vehicles in India.
The Chinese Government has secured the deal to set up Tesla Motors Asia manufacturing hub. The Indian Government is trying to steal the deal by offering various benefits and propositions to Tesla Motors. It will be interesting to see what the American-based electric carmaker decides.
