Tesla Model 3 Launched, Prices Start At $35,000, Deliveries Start in 2017
Tesla Motors has launched its smallest sedan, the Model 3. The new Model 3 sedan will start at $35,000 and has already garnered 130,000 bookings. Tesla will start delivering the Model 3 to customers in 2017.
Tesla claims that the base Model 3 (which is priced at $35,000 in the US) will be able to hit 100km/h from standstill in under 6 seconds and will be able to travel 346 kilometers on a single charge.
Tesla has not revealed the battery pack but in a video posted on Periscope, a company executive is heard stating that there will be longer range battery packs available as well as both single and dual motor variants.
The Model 3 will be built at Tesla's factory in Fremont, California while the Lithium-ion battery packs for the car will be made at Tesla's massive Gigafactory 1 plant in the US state of Nevada.
In terms of Design, the Model 3 looks like a combination of the Model S sedan and the Model X SUV with angular headlamps and taillamps.
The sunroof is a single pane unit while on the of the Model 3 there is a large tablet like display that controls the infotainment system. There are also two boots, one at each end of the car and the Model 3 can accommodate 5 people comfortably.
Model 3 owners will be able to access Tesla's supercharger network for free and plans to double the number of superchrargers by 2017.
The Tesla Model 3 will start reaching customers by the end of 2017.
