Tesla Drivers Warned About The Autopilot Usage In Germany
The owners of the Tesla vehicles were warned in Germany about the usage of Autopilot functionality in their electric cars.
The Federal Motor Authority warned the Tesla owners by issuing the letter stating that the Autopilot function is a purely driver assistance system and not a highly-automated system which can drive by itself.
Under the German traffic rules, the driver of Tesla should be attentive behind the wheel all the times to take control of the vehicle.
The Tesla Autopilot function was introduced back in October 2015. Which helps the driver to steer and stay in a particular lane.
It was only intended to assist drivers and not to replace the drivers. Tesla also clearly stated that Autopilot is a driver assistance system which required drivers attention all the time.
But after the crash of a Tesla Model S in Florida on May 7, which killed the driver. The Autopilot function was under a lot of criticism.
The Transport Ministry of Germany is conducting studies on the Autopilot function used in the Tesla Model S electric cars. An internal report called this function as a ‘considerable traffic hazard.'
