Team GB's Gold Medalists To Get a "Gold Leaf" From Nissan
Nissan's connection with Olympic Gold medalists is not something that began yesterday. Four years ago, Nissan teamed up with Usain Bolt to build a one-off GT-R featuring a gold exterior.
Usain's gold wrapped GT-R was later auctioned at a charity event for $193,191 (Rs. 1.2 Cr.) to support the Usain Bolt Foundation for children.
This year, Nissan decided to apply the same bright gold wrap to its electric Leaf hatchback and give the car to Olympic gymnast Max Whitlock as a reward for securing Olympic gold.
He will receive the keys to a 'Golden Leaf' upon his return to the United Kingdom after the games.
Nissan has also announced that all the athletes from the Team GB and Paralympics GB teams returning home from the Olympic Games with a gold medal will get an identical gold wrapped Leaf.
Team GB has already bagged a total of 16 gold medals, securing second place in the overall standings after U.S. with 26 gold medals, and ahead of China with 15 medals.
