Spied: Tata Nano Pelican Spotted Testing
The next variant of India's least expensive car, the Tata Nano, has been spotted testing near Pune.
Codenamed the Tata Nano Pelican, the new car was spotted under some rather extensive camouflage on the road by Autocar India.
The Nano Pelican features styling quite similar to the current Nano Gen X with the test mule featuring the same the front and rear bumpers. However, the front end of the Pelican, especially the front bonnet and headlamps are reminiscent of the Nano Europa concept.
The Pelican test mule was spotted sitting on larger 13-inch wheels instead of the current 12-inch wheels. Also new is the presence of the fuel inlet at the rear which can be seen thanks to the presence of the fuel filler cap at the rear fender.
Inside the changes are even more evident. The biggest change is the presence of the speedometer behind the steering wheel instead of the current position on top of the centre console. Speaking of the centre console, it now features the same infotainment system found on the Tiago.
The Tata Nano Pelican is also expected to feature a larger capacity engine with more power on board to help it compete with the likes of the Renault Kwid and the Alto 800 from Maruti-Suzuki.
