Tata Motors has taken a small lead over Mahindra & Mahindra to become the third largest passenger vehicle seller in India in November riding high on the Tiago hatchback.
As per the data from the from the automobile industry sources, Tata Motors sold 12,736 units in the month of November. Whereas Mahindra & Mahindra sold 12,707 units in the same period.
Although these figures are only for the month of November and the equation may change in the coming months. The lead maybe of very thin margin, but Tata Motors is expected to hold on to this lead.
The best-selling vehicles from Mahindra & Mahindra, Scorpio and Bolero recorded negative sales figures of 41 percent and 42 percent respectively in the month of November.
Mahindra manages to sell 3,099 units of Scorpio and 5,257 units of Bolero. The recently launched KUV 100 and TUV 300 also witnessed a drop in sales of 55 percent.
On the other hand Tata Motors' successful hatchback, the Tiago recorded a month-on-month decline of two percent and sold 6008 units in the month of November. For the first time, Tiago also managed to break into the top selling cars list.
Tata Zest saw a decline in sales by 18 percent in the same period whereas the Bolt suffered the worst sales figures with a negative sales growth of 46 percent.
More importantly, Mahindra & Mahindra lost the largest utility vehicle seller status to Maruti Suzuki India. Mahindra suffered a tough November as the products in the rural and semi-urban market took a hit due to the demonetisation.
