Suzuki 1.6-litre Diesel Engine In S-Cross & Vitara Recalled
Suzuki sources its 1.6-litre diesel engine from Fiat for several markets. The Japanese-based manufacturer re-badges these engines from MultiJet to DDiS engines. Now Suzuki will be recalling its 1.6-litre diesel engine due to excessive NOx emissions.
Fiat is most likely to pay Suzuki for not meeting desired emission requirements. The 1.6-litre diesel engine fails emission tests in real world testing. So far, there is no confirmation if Suzuki and Fiat have breached any legal emission requirement and is voluntarily recalling both models.
Currently, Suzuki provides its 1.6-litre diesel engine in its S-Cross crossover and Vitara compact SUV model. So far, the recall has been issued only in the United Kingdom. We wonder if the S-Cross model sold in India could also be affected by this recall.
Recently, several vehicles from various manufacturers were recalled in the United Kingdom. Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, and Volkswagen have all issued recalls. Now Suzuki joins this list, however, they have not disclosed the quantity of Vitara and S-Cross being recalled.
Stay tuned for more updates and to know if Maruti Suzuki will also be issuing a recall for the S-Cross in India. At this moment, the emission norms are not very strict in the Indian market. Do let us know what you think about manufacturer's recalling their products?
