Star Trek Actor's Death Was Caused By Recalled Jeep Grand Cherokee

Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin's recently passed away after his Jeep rolled back down his driveway and crushed him.

The Jeep in question is a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was part of the 1.1 Million cars recalled by the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in April.

According to police reports, Yelchin got out of his SUV, which then started rolling backward before fatally pinning him between a brick pillar and the gate. When police found the actor, the Grand Cherokee was found to be in neutral with the engine still running.

An investigation is still ongoing and police have still not determined the exact cause of the tragic accident.

The FCA group which owns Jeep, had voluntarily recalled the 2015 Grand Cherokee due to its ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox which moves back into a central position, no matter what gear you're on.

Instead, the lights on the gear stick change to indicate what gear a person is on.

The gearbox lead to confusion worldwide and there were 41 cases when cars have rolled back and injured occupants.
