Ssangyong Tivoli Not Launching In India; All-New Product Coming
Ssangyong Motors showcased its Tivoli compact SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Mahindra & Mahindra was believed to launch this new model in the Indian market as soon as possible. Now, Ssangyong and Mahindra plan on cancelling the launch of the Tivoli in India.
An all-new compact SUV codenamed S201 will be developed by Ssangyong and Mahindra. The S201 will utilise the same platform that is used in the Ssangyong Tivoli. No timeline for the launch of Ssangyong's new compact SUV has been revealed by Mahindra.
Powering S201 compact SUV will be an optional 1.5-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engine. Both engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission along with an optional automatic transmission. Ssangyong and Mahindra will initially offer only front-wheel drive option.
Currently, compact SUV segment is crowded with several interesting products. Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and Hyundai Creta will compete with Ssangyong S201. Pricing will be key to Ssangyong's success in the Indian market.
