Skoda Planning 3 New SUVs for India
Czech automaker Skoda is planning to introduce three new SUVs in India as the demand for SUVs increases in the country.
Skoda plans to bring its first ever 7-seat SUV, the Kodiaq along with new Yeti to India along with a compact SUV that will also be based on its parent company Volkswagen's MQB A0 Platform.
The compact SUV is expected to be a joint venture between Skoda and VW just like when the two companies collaborated on the Rapid and Vento sedans. However, the Skoda is expected to be positioned lower than the VW SUV.
The second SUV from Skoda will be the new-generation of the Yeti, which has not made its debut as of now. The new Yeti is expected to lose its quirky looks and fall more in line with how a normal SUV looks. The new Yeti is expected to be based on another VW group SUV, the Seat Atica.
The final and largest SUV of the lot will be the Skoda Kodiaq which will make its official debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. The Kodiaq will be the first 7-seat SUV from Skoda and is expected to be priced between Rs. 22-30 lakh when it lands in India.
The new Kodiaq will be offered with the same 1.8-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engine found on the Superb sedan which will be paired to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic gearbox.
