Safety Under 80 Initiative To Make Mumbai-Pune Expressway Safer
To make Mumbai-Pune Expressway safer, Safety Under 80 campaign has been launched to spread awareness about speeding.
The high-speed expressways are always a convenient route to travel because of the quality of roads and ability to travel with high speed. But along with that comes its own dangers of overspeeding.
Under the Zero Fatality Corridor (ZFC) initiative, SaveLife Foundation, in association with Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) launches a new campaign on Mumbai-Pune Expressway (MPEW) to spread awareness about dangers of speeding.
The Safety Under 80 campaign aims at spreading awareness about dangers of speeding. It is expected that this campaign will bring down the road crash fatalities on MPEW from an annual average of 130 to zero by 2020.
The campaign is an attempt to build a replicable model for road safety that can be implemented across any roads in the country.
The maximum speed limit on the MPEW is 80km/h. The campaign's key objective is to educate motorists on the expressway about the consequences of exceeding the speed limit.
The dangers of overspending will be depicted through dramatic outdoor hoardings and crashed cars will be installed on both sides of the roads to alarm the drivers not to overspeed.
Director, Operations of SaveLife Foundation, Saji Cherian said, "Although the speed limit on the expressway is 80kph, we know that adherence to it is quite minimal. Through this campaign, we want to remind the commuters that speeding has serious consequences and encourage people to be more responsible while driving."
