Rosberg Wins 2016 Monza GP; Hamilton Ahead By Two Points
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg started the 2016 Monza GP from first and second place. Hamilton was not able to get a clean start off the line, which compromised his race strategy. Vettel and Raikkonen pounced at this opportunity dispatching Hamilton in their rear view mirror.
Nico Rosberg managed his race pace well and secured his first win at Monza. The German driver is once again into the Championship contention. Teammate Lewis Hamilton now leads the 2016 drivers standings by only two points.
Scuderia Ferrari tried out a different race strategy to Mercedes-AMG. Vettel and Raikkonen opted for a two-stop strategy, while Hamilton and Rosberg managed a one-stop race. This strategy put Hamilton once again on the podium, even after a poor start.
Red Bull Racing did not seem to have menacing pace around Monza. Daniel Ricciardo crossed the line in fifth position, while teammate Max Verstappen finished in the seventh place. Both drivers were clearly off the pace from the very beginning around the Italian circuit.
Both the Force India drivers managed to score points at the 2016 Monza GP. Perez finished eighth, while teammate Hulkenberg finished in tenth place. McLaren Honda did not finish in points, however, it was surprising that Fernando Alonso set the fastest lap time during the race.
Seven races remain to crown the 2016 Formula One World Champion. The next race will be contested on September 18, 2016, in Singapore. It is one of the very few street circuits, ironically it is amongst the very few circuits where a night race is organised.
