The SUV will use the CMF-A platform, the common and shared platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance. The entry-level SUV-Crossover segment has been becoming very popular in recent times and Renault believes that this new product will also turn very successful.
The SUV-Crossover is expected to hit the Indian roads in 2019, while many other manufacturers are already lining up its crossover to enter the market sooner than Renault.
The Renault compact SUV will have to compete with some new products in the same segment like the Tata Motors' Nexon (expected in 2017), Hyundai's HND-14 Carlino concept based compact SUV (expected in 2018), Honda and Jeep compact SUV model (expected in 2018).
Based on the same modular platform, Renault will also develop an MPV crossover and a sedan. Both the vehicles are expected to enter the Indian market in 2018 and 2020 respectively.
