Reliance Jio Developing Car Connect; Plans To Connect Internet To 90 Percent Vehicles
Reliance Jio has taken the telecom sector by storm and now wants a pie in the automotive sector as well. The company is developing the Jio Car Connect On Board Diagnostic (OBD) service and aiming to connect to 90 percent of cars to internet by 2020.
OBD is a combination of software and hardware which provides access to multiple subsystem of a car. The diagnostic tool with its software interface reads data from the sensors in the car and depicts it in a instinctive interface on a computer device. It finds any faults which are not as per the requirement and relays to the driver for better understanding of the car's performance.
As for the Jio Car Connect, this is an OBD system which is hardware device that the driver needs to plug it into car's OBD port and a mobile app. The hardware device is like the dongle we are aware and has a SIM card slot.
You will have to insert the Reliance SIM card to the slot and the hardware is connected to the OBD port, a Reliance WIFI hotspot will be connected. This connection will give access to all Reliance Jio Apps like, Jio Cinema, Music, TV, among others.
Apart from the apps, the Reliance Jio Car Connect will give the owners access to the car performance like the oil level, water stats, fuel info, battery change alerts, etc. on the owner's Smartphone app. It even has an alert system in case the driver has not locked the car correctly.
The new service from Reliance is still under development with not specific launch set by the company. Reliance is providing previews of the new system at select Jio Experience Zones set up across the country.
