Championship leader Gill came out on top after the end of day one stages. Driving an MRF Skoda Fabia R5 car alongside his co-driver Stephane Prevot, Gill stormed through the last six stages to take a commanding lead in the rally.
Whereas his teammate, German driver Fabian Kreim and co-driver Frank Christian took the early lead, but were hindered by the lack of rear grip and a puncture and could not make it close enough to the 2013 champion. After the end of day one, Kreim is more than a minute adrift from the rally leader.
Driving a Subaru Impreza, Indian driver Sanjay Takale alongside his co-driver Noriko Takeshita were in eighth position after the end of leg one.
