Is Land Rover Eyeing To Take Down The Mercedes G63 AMG With The Upcoming Defender?
Land Rover is readying the next generation Defender already, which will be available as a family of models, including a performance oriented version.
The production of the iconic Land Rover Defender came to an end recently, leaving many fans around the world sad. But here's the good news — the British carmaker is readying the next generation Defender already, scheduled to launch soon.
As Land Rover previously said, the company wants to turn the Defender into a family of models, rather than having a regular wheelbase body and an extended wheelbase model.
Also, along with a few convertible variants, the next generation Defender will be available as a family that will be extended through various engines.
Gerry McGovern, the design head of Land Rover, has already been behind the wheel of the first prototypes of the upcoming Defender, and he claims that the car is "spectacular."
McGovern also revealed that Land Rover is experimenting with the idea of a performance oriented version of the next Defender. The performance oriented Defender could be developed by the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division.
Speaking of the engine, the 2019 Defender SVR could sport a supercharged V8 or a V6 engine, while there are sources that suggest the car will get an inline-six, designed by a different brand.
