One Car Per Family Rule Could It Reduce Traffic Congestion In Cities
Traffic congestion is a growing concern amongst city dwellers all over the world. Individuals are buying multiple automobiles, sometimes a household may have two or even more vehicles. Multiple vehicles owned by city dwellers increases congestion and traffic jams.
Now, Mumbai City officials plan on implementing a stringent One Car Per Family rule. Bombay High Court has suggested that the state government takes strict action to combat traffic congestion. Also, transport department should promote inland water transport modes.
Several buildings within Mumbai city do not have adequate parking space. Majority vehicle owners park their prized possession out on the road. Parking on the road in unsafe as well as narrows the road, thus, causing traffic jams all over the city.
At this moment, it is unclear as to how Mumbai city officials will implement this rule. It is also unclear what will individuals who currently own multiple cars do. Should designated parking spots be built for localities that cannot have their own parking space in their premises?
