5. Tata Zest
Mileage: 23km/l (diesel); 17.6km/l (petrol)
Price: Rs. 5.55 lakh

First up in our list and in the fifth place is the Tata Zest. The Tata Zest is powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 89bhp and a 1.3-litre diesel engine in two states of tune. The first state of tune produces 74bhp and the second makes 89bhp. Both engines produce 140Nm and 200Nm of torque respectively. The Tata Zest is also offered with an optional Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) along with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Taking the fourth place is the Hyundai Xcent, which is offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines as well. The Xcent is offered with a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Honda offers the Amaze with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic gearbox.

The Ford Figo Aspire is a brilliant compact sedan offered in India. The car features very good styling along with three brilliant engines. The first up is the 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 87bhp and 112Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 110bhp and 136Nm of torque. The third choice is a 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes 99bhp and 215Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre petrol engine comes with an automatic gearbox while the rest feature a manual gearbox.
