Japanese automaker Mitsubishi might introduce the Mirage in the Indian market. With the increasing demand for the hatchback segment in India, the company will get a good market for its Mirage Hatch.
Earlier this year, Nissan has acquired 34 percent stake in the Mitsubishi Motors with $2.2 billion deal. Mitsubishi will be looking to develop its products in India under the Renault - Nissan facility. The company is also focusing on selling its products under the Nissan's network.
The first product to roll out in India by the company will be Mirage. The vehicle will be a good competitor against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift and others in the same segment.
The model was unveiled at 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. The hatchback will go on for sale next year for the global market.
The model likely to launched in India will be the next generation Mirage. The new version will have an upmarket cabin with an all-new steering wheel, shift panel and air-conditioning panel. Other features include new upholstery, new instrument cluster, rear wiper, all four power windows, etc.
Safety features include 7 SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist, tire pressure monitoring system, active stability control with traction control.
The car will be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine producing 78bhp @ 6000rpm and 100Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The customers can choose either 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox.
The company will be pricing the Mirage hatch in the range of Rs 5 - 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
