Mini, BMW X3 To Go Electric By 2020
A Mini EV and a BMW X3 EV variant have been confirmed to happen by the end of the decade.
German carmaker BMW's latest financial reports confirm that an all-electric X3 variant and a Mini electric vehicle (EV) are set to hit the roads by 2020.
The BMW X3 EV will be based on the next-generation X3 model and is expected to hit showrooms by the end of the decade.
There are no details about the powertrain of the new X3 EV except that it could also be made available along with a range extender hybrid variant, just like the one found on the current i3.
The Mini electric vehicle is expected to be here by the end of the decade as well and it could be made available as a variant of a current vehicle or a brand new model.
Mini recently introduced the plug-in hybrid variant of the Countryman, the first ever hybrid from the British carmaker.
Considering the fact that it is the first Mini hybrid, the Countryman could prove to be a good option for Mini with which it could introduce an EV into the market.
However, there are rumors that Mini's 2011 Rocketman concept could make its way into production as a dedicated all-electric vehicle from the British brand.
