Decision Over Team Orders Between Rosberg & Hamilton
It is decision time at the Mercedes-AMG Petronas headquarters over 'Team Orders'. The team decided to discuss the matter over the last lap clash between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. A decision will be announced on July 7, 2016, regarding the issue of 'Team Orders'.
The last lap debacle between Rosberg and Hamilton ruined Mercedes-AMG's hope of one-two finish. Toto Wolff, Executive Director of Mercedes-AMG Petronas team revealed that team orders are not to his liking, however, if team results are jeopardised they will take a call on it.
Rosberg and Hamilton are the definite title contenders for the 2016 Formula One Championship. Giving team orders could favour one driver over the other within the team. Mercedes-AMG does not want to favour one driver over the other as both of them are exceptionally talented.
Previously, Mercedes asked Nico Rosberg to give way to Lewis Hamilton at the Monaco GP. Rosberg gave way without asking any questions to the team and expected same fate if the roles were reversed. Unfortunately, the last lap of Austrian GP was another story and made both drivers look bad.
Hamilton is still considered to be the favourite to win the 2016 title. Rosberg has been leading the Championship so far and has maintained his lead. It will be interesting to see how Team Orders will affect the Formula One Championship if implemented by Mercedes-AMG officials.
