Mercedes have unveiled the E43 AMG ahead of its official debut at the New York Auto Show later this month.
Powering the E43 AMG is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 that pushes out 396bhp and 520Nm of torque. 0–100km/h takes 4.6 seconds and the top speed is limited to 250km/h. The E43 AMG returns a mileage of 12km/l.
The E43 AMG sends its power and torque to all 4 wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox that the boffins at AMG have fiddled with to make the shifts faster. The power and torque split is biased towards rthe rear (39:61).
The design upgrades compared to the other E-Class variants can be descirbed in one word — restrained. Up front the bumper has been slightly restyled. The same can be said about the front grille.
At the rear there are the usual quad AMG exhausts, two tips at either end. The wheels are 19-inch black AMG five-spoke alloys that are painted in a rather glossy black colour.
Inside the usual AMG flair of red stitching and the leather sports seats are present. Customers can spec up the E43 AMG with a pair of 12.3 inch TFt screens one of which replaces the dials while the other is part of the infotainment screen.
The E43 will not be the top of the line car in the E Class range. That honor will belong to the E63 AMG which is expected to come out later this year.
