Mercedes-Benz To Launch Four More Cars In India By Year End
Mercedes-Benz will be launching more more models in India by this year end, expanding the product lineup to 12 cars in India.
The German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz is all set to add four more cars to its premium product portfolio in the country.
The four cars will be launched in India by this year end taking the Mercedes-Benz product range to 12 cars. This was stated by Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Roland Folger at the inauguration of the new dealership in Hyderabad.
Mercedes-Benz has a total of 87 showrooms across 40 cities in India. And Mercedes will add three more dealerships to the tally in near future.
Folger stated that Mercedes-Benz has managed to localise its production in India up to 60 percent. That means nine models are manufactured in India.
Folger said, "Mercedes-Benz recorded 32% year-on-year growth by selling 13,502 cars during January to December of 2015. During the 2015-2016 fiscal year, we sold 13,558 units (April 2015 to March 2016). We sold 3,327 units from July to September 2016, indicating a 12% growth over the April to June quarter."
He added, "As growth strategy in India, we have invested more Rs 1,000 crore to double production capacity to 20,000 cars, making us the only luxury car brand to have the largest production capacity."
Speaking on the diesel ban, Folger stated that Mercedes has introduced the petrol variants for all of its models to meet diesel ban in the country. However, he said that there is no urgency to expand production in India.
Mercedes Benz India is also gearing up to make its cars compliant with the Bharat-VI norms which will be implemented from the year 2018.
