McLaren's Next Hypercar Could Be All-Electric
McLaren recently revealed its future plan, called the Track 22, under which the company is calling for investment of around USD 1.4 billion, which will cover McLaren's next six years of operation. Under the Track 22 plan, McLaren will have 15 new cars or drivetrains.
Under the 15 new product plan, McLaren will also introduce a hypercar that will sit on the top of the range, and will be all electric. Work on the prototype has already started. It will take a couple of years for McLaren to reveal the concept, but if the company is not able to deliver a good car, they will stick to building a hybrid.
Mike Flewitt, the Chief Executive Officer of McLaren said, For us, the vehicle, when it comes to pure EV, has to be as exciting to drive as a P1 or a 675LT. So what we need to work on is how we deliver an EV that is that exciting, that engaging, that compelling."
McLaren also claims that more than half its cars will be hybrids by the end of the six year plan. The company is working on the next generation hybrid system.
