Manic McLaren 688 High Sport Revealed
Woking based McLaren doesn't seem to want to end its series of limited-run supercars. After the crazy 675LT and 675LT Spider, McLaren's mental go-faster engineers have another manic limited run car up their sleeves.
Meet the McLaren 688 High Sport, which has finally been revealed in the flesh, thanks to the Woking crazy forums at mclarenlife.
So what exactly is the 688 High Sport or the 688HS as it will be known. The new McLaren uses the same 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 that has been used on every McLaren since the F1. The engine produces 678.5bhp, 12.5bhp up from the 675LT's demonic 666bhp output.
There are also a few design tweaks including a more aggressive front end, with winglets borrowed from the GT3 car, vents on the wheel arches, and a fixed spoiler at the back. The 688HS is also expected to be slightly lighter than the 675LT.
The McLaren 688HS is expected to make its debut at either the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in a few weeks time, or at the Paris Motor Show in late September. Production numbers are expected to be limited to just 25 cars, though knowing McLaren, that number may double if they decide to take the roof of the 688 High Sport.
