Maruti Suzuki Jimny India Launch Slated For Late 2017
Maruti Suzuki Jimny is expected to be launched in India by end of 2017.
Japanese car manufacturer Suzuki has got some cool cars under its international product portfolio. But the company has never shown interest to launch those products in the Indian market.
The Jimny compact SUV is one such product. Earlier it was reported that the compact SUV will be manufactured in India. Now, reports suggest that the modern iteration of the compact SUV will be launched in India by late 2017.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be based on the same platform which underpins the Baleno and soon to be launched Ignis crossover.
The compact SUV will be produced in Suzuki's upcoming manufacturing facility at Gujarat which will also serve as manufacturing base for the next generation model.
The next generation Jimny will be powered by 1-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol unit which will make its debut with the launch of Baleno RS next year. Jimny is likely to be launched with an all-wheel-drive system.
Although it is expected that Maruti Suzuki may also introduce the more powerful 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine which is also used in the European version of the Suzuki Vitara.
The transmission options on the compact SUV will include a five-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. It is not yet confirmed whether the compact SUV will be launched with the name Jimny or will be renamed for the Indian market.
It is expected that the Jimny will be slotted as the successor of Gypsy to benefit from the popularity of Gypsy in the Indian market. The first generation of Jimny made its debut back in 1970.
The next iteration of the Jimny was launched in 1981 and it was sold for a long period of time. And the third iteration came into the market in 1998. Now, after 17 years the next generation Jimny will make its way to the market by mid-2017.
