Maruti Ignis — Compact Crossover Caught Testing In Delhi
Maruti Suzuki's first compact crossover, the Ignis, is scheduled for launch in October 2016. Ahead of the launch, the vehicle was caught testing in Delhi.
The Ignis falls under the micro-SUV segment, in which, it competes against the Mahindra KUV100. The Ignis will have good ground clearance, and a 4-wheel drive system, which is also expected in the India-spec version.
The compact crossover is rumoured to be offered with a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine. The diesel unit is expected to be coupled with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
In addition to the two engine variants that is rumoured to be on offer, there is talk of a new 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine in the making.
The Ignis measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and 1,595mm in height. The vehicle comes with a wheelbase of 2,435mm and has a ground clearance of 180mm. Eminent safety features such as ABS with EBD, airbags, and hill descent control is expected to be a standard feature in the Ignis.
The Ignis will be the first Maruti to feature a Harman Kardon audio system, which is likely to be included in future Maruti cars as well.
On paper, the Ignis reads well. However, timing of the launch is key, and it looks like Maruti is all set to time the launch of the Ignis during the Dusshera and Diwali festivities.
