Ciaz Touches 1 Lakh Units; Is This The New Sedan Segment Leader?
Ciaz is pulling ahead in sales with over one lakh unit sold from the Maruti Suzuki's stable. Considered a milestone for Maruti as it has been not so successful when it came to the premium segment.
The Maruti Ciaz is giving a serious fight to Honda City which has been the segment leader for may years. Maruti has been unsuccessful in the premium segment with models like Kizashi and Grand Vitara, both of them did not turn up the sales volumes for the country's biggest car manufacturer.
The Ciaz was launched in October, 2014 and it has steadily climbed the ladder to notch up sales and threatening to dislodge the Honda City from its position it has been enjoying for many years.
R S Kalsi, executive director (marketing and sales) at Maruti Suzuki said, "Ciaz started out as an outstanding product in terms of looks, features, and the cabin space. With the introduction of Ciaz smart hybrid technology and new infotainment features, it has clearly pulled ahead as the best product in its class."
In the month of May alone, Maruti sold 5,188 units of Ciaz to dealers in the domestic market, against 3,305 units of Honda City. In April, the Honda City just pipped the sales of Ciaz by just 91 units.
Maruti has even exported the Ciaz in numbers of 18,000 units since its launch in 2014. In 2015, Maruti launched the mild hybrid variant of the Ciaz which helped the sales of the sedan as the hybrid enjoys lower excise duty in Delhi especially as it has provided the exemption to vehicles with hybrid technology.
