Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS To Be Launched In February 2017
Maruti Suzuki will be launching the sportier iteration of the Baleno hatchback, the Baleno RS in February 2017.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno, a successful hatchback for the Indian automaker which brought in large sales volume in the Indian market. Since its launch the premium hatchback has been the best selling model for the company.
The sporty and powerful iteration of the Baleno, the Baleno RS was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. It was supposed to hit the Indian market by this festive season. But now it is expected that the hot hatch will make its entry in February 2017.
The major highlight of the Baleno RS is the engine. It is powered by a 1-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine churning out 111bhp of power.
The engine is already employed in the Baleno sold in the international markets. Although the transmission options are still unknown, it is expected that a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox will be offered.
The hot hatch will also sport disc brakes on all four wheels, the exterior design will feature more aggressive body kit to appeal to its RS tagline and it will be equipped with black alloy wheels.
As far as features are concerned it is expected to be equipped with the similar set of features as the top of the line Alpha trim Baleno. Which includes automatic headlamps, SmartPlay infotainment system and electric ORVMs.
The safety equipment on the Baleno RS includes dual airbags, ABS, rain-sensing wipers, reverse camera and parking sensors. With the Baleno RS, Maruti Suzuki will make its entry into the performance hatchback segment in the country.
Maruti Suzuki will slot the Baleno RS above its regular sibling. So expect the Baleno RS to carry a price tag of around Rs 8.1 lakh ex-showroom. The hot hatch will be pitted against the likes of Volkswagen Polo GT and Fiat Punto Evo Abarth.
