Suzuki Ignis Mini-SUV With AMT Showcased At 2016 GIIAS
Maruti Suzuki has been teasing us with their mini-SUV for a while now. The manufacturer had previously showcased the Ignis at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Now, the Maruti Ignis was spotted at the 2016 Indonesia Motor Show with AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).
Powering the Suzuki Ignis in Indonesia will be a 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine. This engine produces 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to an optional 5-speed manual or an AMT system. A diesel-powered Ignis will also be introduced in the due course of time.
The Indian market is most likely to receive the Maruti Ignis sometime during the festive season. Maruti Suzuki will initially equip the India-spec Ignis with the same engine that does duty in the Baleno. An optional diesel engine in Maruti Ignis mini-SUV could be introduced at a later stage.
In terms of competition, Maruti Suzuki Ignis will take on the Mahindra KUV1OO model. Expect the Ignis to bear a price tag for the base variant within Rs. 4.5 lakh ex-showroom. At this moment, it is unclear if Maruti Suzuki will be selling the Ignis through regular dealers or through their NEXA outlets across India.
