Maruti Sells 1 Lakh Units Of Ciaz; Will It Topple The Honda City?
When Maruti launched the Ciaz in India, there were doubts if it will sell, as Maruti never had it easy in the premium segment. Also, the Honda City is a favorite and loved sedan in the country and it was difficult to challenge it.
Maruti today reported a new milestone in terms of sales for Ciaz, the mid-segment sedan crossed one lakh unit in the domestic market as of June 2016. Recent trend shows a decline in sales for Honda City with less than 5000 units being sold. On the other hand, Maruti Ciaz is selling more than 500 units.

R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki said, "Today, Ciaz is the largest selling sedan in the A3+ segment. It has enabled us to achieve a market share of 40% in the premium sedan segment. The success of Ciaz is very encouraging as it demonstrates customers' confidence in Maruti Suzuki and reinforces our commitment to offer premium products in the upper segments."
Some of the key reasons for the success in sales are cut in VAT which resulted in pricing cut on the Ciaz, the hybrid of the Ciaz called SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) on the diesel variant which came with government incentive through FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles) initiative.
Also, are the features which helped sell the Ciaz like Touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system, engine start/stop technology, ABS with EBD, dual airbags as optional from base variant itself.
The Maruti Ciaz is powered by two engine option, a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel mill with SHVS technology. The Ciaz is priced in the range of Rs. 7.53 lakh to Rs. 9.94 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi).
