Indian carmaker Mahindra looks all set to give the Scorpio a brand new mild-hybrid system that will replace the current micro-hybrid system found on the SUV.
The new hybrid system which is dubbed 'Intelli-Hybrid' will provide assistance to the Scorpio's engine during driving and act as a start-stop system as well. The current mild-hybrid system only acts a start-stop system for the SUV.
The new 'Intelli-Hybrid' system will feature the stop-start system found on the micro-hybrid system along with brake energy recuperation, a larger capacity battery, and an integrated starter motor. The motor functions will charge the battery just like an alternator does and it will also provide a mild electrical boost to the engine in certain driving situations.
In a rather weird twist, the new 'Intelli-Hybrid' system will be offered only with the company's 2.2-litre variant (140bhp, 330Nm of torque) which means that prospective Mahindra owners in Delhi, where there is a rather intense anti-pollution drive in progress, will have to make do with the 1.99-litre diesel engine (140bhp, 320Nm of torque).
