Mahindra Launches 1.99-litre Diesel Engine For Scorpio & XUV5OO
Mahindra and Mahindra was one of the manufacturers that is significantly affected by the ban of diesel vehicles sale in Delhi-NCR region. The Government in an attempt to curb pollution levels, has banned the sale of diesel vehicles over 2,000cc.
Now the Indian automobile manufacturer has come up with a solution. Mahindra has launched a new 1.99-litre diesel engine for its XUV5OO and Scorpio models. Currently, this new engine option will be available only in the Delhi-NCR region.
The engineers have tuned the 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine differently for both models. In the Scorpio the engine produces 120bhp and the XUV5OO produces 140bhp. Performance figures are similar to that of the previous engines that were powering the SUVs.
So far, pricing of the new 1.9-litre mHawk diesel engine to be used in Scorpio and XUV5OO has not been revealed. The Scorpio is priced between Rs. 9.05 lakh to Rs. 14.61 lakh. Mahindra XUV5OO costs Rs. 11.47 lakh to Rs. 17.37 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi).
Mahindra confirms that development of the new 1.9-litre mHawk diesel engine was going on from April, 2014 onwards. The launch is right in time as sales of Scorpio and XUV5OO was banned owing to engine displacement. Mahindra was also exploring options of introducing a petrol engine for its SUVs.
