Design

The KUV100 is bold and modern in its design, the headlamp which is very reminiscent of the Evoque from Land Rover, which makes it look imposing. The car is under the small hatchback segment even though it looks like a mini SUV.

The Kwid started the SUV look on a small hatchback and is one of the best-looking cars in its segment. The car well finished and does not look like it's been compressed from a larger SUV.

As for the Swift, the car is rounded in its design and it flows very nicely to the rear of the car. The car could look bulky, however, its space inside the cabin has not been compromised.

Engine Specifications & Gearbox

The Mahindra KUV100 is powered by 1.2litre petrol MFalcon G80, 3-cylinder engine, which produces 82bhp at 5,500rpm and 115Nm at 3,600rpm of torque. The diesel engine is powered by 1.2litre, 3-cylinder, producing 77bhp at 3,750rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2,250rpm.

Renault has powered the Kwid with 800cc petrol SCe engine, 3-cylinder, producing 53bhp at 5,678rpm and torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm. There is no diesel variant to it, however, Renault could be launching it in the 1.0litre option.

Maruti Swift is powered by both petrol and diesel engine, the petrol specifications are 1.2litre K series engine, punching out 83bhp at 6,000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The diesel engine is powered by 1.3litre DDiS, 4-cylinder, producing 74bhp at 4,000rpm and torque of 190Nm at 2,000rpm.

Features

The KUV100's top variant features 3.5-inch infotainment system with Mahindra BLUE SENSE App compatibility, steering mounted controls, DRLs (Daytime Running Lights), turn indicators on the ORVMs are standard across variants, engine immobilizer and power-eco mode for the diesel variant.

Renault Kwid on the other hand, sports the MediaNAV system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux inputs, Gear shift indicator and remote keyless entry, and one-touch lane change indicator.

The Maruti Swift features the automatic climate control and Push Start Button which the other two cars miss. However, the car misses out on the Navigation system like the Kwid. The audio system is stereo with radio and CD player with USB and Aux input, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Safety

The KUV100 sports dual airbags, ABS with EBD, speed sensing automatic door locks, automatic hazard warning lamps on panic braking or bonnet opening.

Renault Kwid sports driver side airbags and central locking system, along with high mounted stop lamp and audible parking brake warning.

The Maruti Swift is fitted with reverse parking sensor, dual airbags and ABS with EBD, brake assist, security alarm system, side door impact beams and more.

Pricing

Mahindra KUV100 prices range from Rs. 4.48 lakh to Rs. 6.95 lakh depending on variants and fuel options.

The Renault Kwid costs Rs. 2.62 lakh to Rs. 3.67 lakh, the Kwid features only petrol variants.

As for the Maruti Swift, the prices are from Rs. 4.71 lakh to Rs. 7.43 lakh for the petrol and diesel variants.

Verdict

The current flavour in the automobile industry is the SUV aura, Mahindra KUV100 takes the honour with its styling and its lower pricing than the Maruti Swift.

The Maruti Swift, on the other hand, is well settled and the features are better compared to the Mahindra KUV100.

As for the Renault Kwid, it's a great buy for the price range and the features are way ahead of its immediate rivals like the Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon.
