‘Made-in-India’ Chevrolet Beat Fails Latin NCAP Crash Test
The India-made Chevrolet Beat known as the Spark GT in Latin America has scored zero stars at the Latin NCAP crash test. The Latin NCAP goes on to state that Chevrolet Beat continues to disappoint with the zero star rating for both adult and child protection.
The Chevrolet Beat or the Spark GT (Classic) which is a basic safety equipped version and manufactured in India failed the crash test. The model is particularly popular in Mexico and Colombia and has failed to impress the Latin NCAP.
The lack of airbags resulted in the Chevy Beat scoring a zero in the test; however, the structure was rated as stable in the frontal impact crash test. The side impact crash test was not done as the frontal crash tested yielded zero stars which made the Latin NCAP not go for the side crash test.
Also, the Chevrolet Beat scored low in the child occupant protection was explained by the high readings by the dummies used in the crash test and the lack of proper instructions for proper Child Restraint System installation.
Recently, the Global NCAP has tested the India-made Renault Kwid which resulted in a single star. Also, the Honda Mobilio with dual air bags scored three stars.
