World Rally Championship: M-Sport Sealed The Deal With Sebastien Ogier For 2017 Season
WRC driver, four-time world champion Sebastien Ogier has signed with M-Sport WRC team for 2017 season.
Four-time world champion, former Volkswagen driver, Sebastien Ogier has signed a deal with M-Sport World Rally Team to drive for 2017 season of World Rally Championship.
The Frenchman has come to terms with M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson yesterday. Ogier was left stranded when Volkswagen made a shocking decision of quitting the WRC after the 2016 season. Since then Ogier has explored his options in the WRC and finally settled for the M-Sport drive.
Previously Ogier had tested the M-Sport-built Ford Fiesta WRC car in late November. The French driver tested the Fiesta WRC at the Walters Arena rally complex in Wales and it is expected that he will begin testing the car in Sweden later this week.
On his new contract with M-Sport Ogier said, "There will be a lot of new things this season, but I am definitely looking forward to it. We have a new generation of world rally cars, and a new team - it's certainly an exciting time."
Despite not spending much time in the Fiesta WRC car, Ogier is confident to give his best to achieve the maximum result in the championship. He stated that he is excited to work with M-Sport and he aims to bring backM-Sport to the top step of the podium.
After the departure of the German squad from WRC, M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson was keen to bring Ogier in the team and he is delighted to have settled the deal with the French driver. An excited Wilson said, "We go to Rallye Monte-Carlo with the number one on the door of the Ford Fiesta WRC and the strongest driver line-up we have had in years."
He added, "We have worked extremely hard to secure them, and they believe that the Ford Fiesta WRC is the car with which they can best defend their championship."
Alongside Ogier, Estonian driver Ott Tanak will be driving the second Fiesta WRC in the 2017 season. With the world champion in the Cumbrian-based team, it is expected that M-Sport can revive its past glorious days in the championship.
