Lexus Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered Vehicle Coming By 2020
Lexus is confident that they would launch their all-new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle by 2020. As of now, there is no model being confirmed, however, Lexus seem confident in their development team.
Lexus is trying to push the envelope of innovation further beyond with its automobiles. The luxury Japanese automobile manufacturer plans on introducing hydrogen powered vehicles as early as 2020. Several other manufacturers are also exploring alternate sources of propulsion.
So far, there is no model confirmed that will go into production. Lexus has still to decided how they would fit the hydrogen fuel cells in a regular vehicle. As of now, the technology available for hydrogen fuel cell is bulky and fits perfectly in an SUV model.
Previously, Lexus had showcased the LF-FC concept model during 2015. This concept boasted of a hydrogen fuel cell powered system for the rear wheels. Front wheels were powered by two in-wheel motors in the axle.
Toyota is the only automobile manufacturer that offers a mass produced hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle. Mirai by Toyota produces 151bhp, along with 335Nm of peak torque output. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds and can attain a top speed of 179 km/h.
