Lewis Hamilton Handed 55 Place Grid Penalty At Belgian GP
Formula One paddock will be returning to competition post almost a month long vacation. This weekend Formula One driver and teams will be in Belgium for 2016 Spa Francorchamps GP.
Lewis Hamilton's weekend did not begin well, as he was sure to take on grid penalties. Hamilton suffered engine issues with his Mercedes race machine early on in the season. The British-born driver has been handed a 55 place grid penalty, which seems like a joke. Formula One grid consists only of 22 drivers, which means Hamilton will start from the last place.
Ahead of free practice 3 at the Belgian GP, Hamilton made another change to his engine unit. Previously, Hamilton changed several engine units, which accounted for a 30 place grid penalty. Formula One officials permit only five changes on various engine units.
It will be interesting to see what strategy Mercedes apply with Lewis Hamilton. The best strategy is to not run and overstress the Mercedes engine in Hamilton's vehicle during qualification. Anyways, Hamilton will be starting from the last place, there is no point in running the engine.
Currently, Lewis Hamilton is leading Formula One 2016 Championship. Nico Rosberg his team mate, is 19 points adrift of Hamilton and this weekend is all about damage limitation. So far, Rosberg performance does not look menacing.
