Lance Stroll has clinched the 2016 FIA Formula 3 Championship title at the penultimate round at Imola. The Canadian driver has been dominant in the 2016 season.
Driving for the Prema Powerteam, Stroll became the latest champion from the talent factory. On the way to his title, he secured 11 wins, 17 podiums and 12 pole positions.
For the sixth successive year, a champion has emerged from the Prema Powerteam. Drivers running the Mercedes-AMG Formula 3 engine have secured 12 to 14 possible titles.
Like many racing drivers Stroll started his career with Karts. He switched to Formula racing in 2014 and won the Italian Formula 4 Championship.
He entered Formula 3 European Championship last year and finished the rookie season with a win and six podium finishes to end the season at the overall fifth position. After one year, just third season into single seaters he is the champion.
Stroll is also the member of Young Driver Development Program with the Williams Formula One Team this season.

He added, "Formula 3 is one of the best series for following the development of young talents, of which there have been a number of good examples in recent years."
He further said,"I'm thinking especially here of our two Mercedes juniors Pascal Wehrlein and Esteban Ocon in Formula 1 and Felix Rosenqvist, who recently made such a strong start in the DTM. I trust too that Lance will make his way in motor racing."
