The first pre-season testing has come to an end and most teams took this opportunity to showcase their new racing livery. Surprisingly, Scuderia Ferrari drivers were the fastest drivers through the test. Last years winners, Mercedes were focused on mileage testing and covering maximum laps.
On the final day of the first pre-season testing, Kimi Raikkonen set the fast lap time. The Finnish driver set an impressive lap time of 1:23.477 around the Barcelona circuit. Raikkonen confirmed that most teams are hiding their true potential, which will be revealed as the first race gets closer.
Scuderia Ferrari was fastest on most occasions when driven by Sebastian Vettel as well as by Kimi Raikkonen. The improvement made over the winter seems to have been made in the right direction. Ferrari now seems closer to Mercedes than last year and could pose a challenge in 2016.
McLaren Honda after a successful first test session with Jenson Button ran into some trouble. During, Fernando Alonso's run coolant began to leak from the vehicle restricting the Spaniard to just three laps. The issue could not be resolved and no test was further conducted.
All other teams have also made positive strides ahead in terms of development. Renault, Haas, and even Red Bull Racing have significantly improved their power units. 2016 Formula One Championship is poised for an interesting season, stay tuned for more updates.
