American SUV maker Jeep has launched the Wrangler Unlimited four-door SUV in India. The Wrangler Unlimited is priced at Rs. 71,59,104 ex-showroom (Delhi).
The Wrangler Unlimited was launched alongside the Grand Cherokee at Jodhpur's Umaid Bhavan Palace at an event that marked the entry of Jeep into India for the first time in its 75-year history.
Powering the Wrangler Unlimited is a turbocharged 2.8-litre common rail diesel engine that produces 197bhp @ 3,600rpm and 460Nm of torque @ 1,600 - 2,000rpm. The engine is paired with a 5-speed automatic gearbox that spreads the power and torque across all four wheels.
The Wrangler Unlimited is 4,583mm long, 1,877mm wide, and 1,829mm tall with the hardtop (1,860mm with the soft top). The Unlimited's wheelbase is 2,947mm long and the SUV has a ground clearance of 238.2mm. The Wrangler can wade through up to 508 mm of water.
Design wise, the Wrangler is the closest thing to a Second World War Willys Jeep that you can buy brand new today. The round headlamps along with the big grille, bring back images of the iconic jeeps from the wars. A fold-down front windshield is also available as an option as are soft and hardtops for the top of the vehicle.
At the sides, the wheel arches are pumped up and house the large alloy wheels, while the doors can be removed from the rest of the body. The rear keeps the iconic Jeep design alive with small rectangular tail lamps and a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate.
