Jeep To Have Exclusive Dealerships For Its Products In India
After teasing fans for almost three years, Jeep is finally set to launch its products in India on September 1, 2016. The carmaker's products were showcased during the 2016 Auto Expo.
Jeep has decided to have separate outlets for its products sold here and not to use Fiat outlets. The carmaker will initially have three dealerships and will look at expanding to other cities soon.
All the Jeep models that will be introduced in India will come as Completely Built Units (CBUs) initially and Fiat India will start assembling the vehicles locally from next year onward. The company is expected to spend around Rs. 1800 crore for its assembly and production line in India.
At the moment, Jeep will sell the Wrangler Unlimited in India, along with the Grand Cherokee. The Wrangler's diesel engine will produce 197bhp while the Grand Cherokee's diesel engine will produce 241bhp.
The Wrangler's engine is expected to be mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox while the Cherokee's engine comes with a 8-speed automatic gearbox. The SRT models of the Cherokee and the Wrangler are also expected to debut in India, maybe at a later stage.
Stay tuned for more details as we will be at the launch of the Jeep products in India.
