Jeep was present at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi with a couple of their luxury SUVs. In the days leading to the motor show, Jeep imported the Renegade compact SUV to the country for R&D purposes. Now the American-based SUV maker has commenced road testing of the Renegade in India.
Previously, Jeep imported both the 4x4 and 4x2 drive options of the Renegade to India. The Renegade compact SUV utilises the Fiat 500X platform, which will also be used by the C-SUV model. Jeep India could be testing components for C-SUV with the Renegade guise over it.
At this moment, Jeep will introduce almost all of its models in India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. Jeep India, however, plans to locally manufacture several models from the Fiat facility in Ranjangaon, Pune. Local assembly and manufacture of Jeep models are set to begin by 2017.
Renegade, when launched in India, will be the most affordable offering from Jeep. Under the hood will be a 3.0-litre Multijet2 engine with an optional engine tune between 138bhp and 168bhp. The engine will be mated to an optional 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmissions.
