Nissan's research and development base in Chennai will help the firm to develop and manufacture affordable electric car project. This was stated by Renault-Nissan global CEO Carlos Ghosn.
Speaking about autonomous car Ghosn said that the major companies are working on the autonomous technology but it will take another three to four years to gain substantial growth.
At the 2016 Paris Motor Show Ghosn said that the electric cars are mainly developed for the Chinese market.
As the Chinese government supports the initiative. But the knowledge will come from India from the firm's Chennai-based research and development facility.
Ghosn also appreciated the performance of Indian operations. He was very happy with the response received for the Kwid in India.
The company's first priority will be to ensure that the Kwid will be a solid success across the global market and bridge the gap between Kwid and Duster.
On being asked about whether the company will produce autonomous cars, he said, "You need to have drivers respecting the rules."
He added," Autonomous car is going to stop at the red light, would a user in Mumbai or Rio De Janerio stop? It will be first seen in disciplined driving counties like US, Japan, Europe, before one starts expecting it in emerging markets."
