Hyundai i20-Based SUV Spied Testing In Europe
It was evident that Hyundai was not working on a sub-compact SUV from past one year, but now the first spy photos of Hyundai's latest SUV have landed on the internet.
Earlier Hyundai previewed its future concept SUV, the Intrado at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The spy photos suggest that the SUV has a unique front end design much like its rival model Nissan Juke.
The front end of the SUV features the new cascading grille and a two-tier headlamp setup which are found in the Citroen's.
The profile of the SUV is designed in an unconventional pattern while the rear end features unique tail lamps with LED lights.
This new SUV will be based on the i20 platform. The main difference between this SUV and Creta will be its unconventional design and extra safety equipment to cater European and American market demands.
Unlike the Hyundai i20 Active, the Intrado will be equipped with an all-new body structure and some off-roading capabilities to attract young customers.
This new SUV is expected to hit the markets in 2017. The Intrado is likely to be powered by 1-litre T-GDi petrol, 1.4-litre T-GDi petrol and 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engines.
The engine will be mated to six-speed manual or automatic gearbox or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Although it will be too early to comment about whether this i20 based SUV will enter the Indian market. Hyundai has already announced the launch of its new Tucson model in the country.
